Philosophy/Approach
As a marriage and family therapist I provide mental health services to individuals, couples and families. My primary style is cognitive behavior therapy (CBT). This style of therapy helps identify, evaluate and change dysfunctional thinking patterns and allows for a new way of thinking along with new behaviors for a more balanced well-being. However, each couple, family and individual are unique therefore, other modalities can be utilized. I believe in a joint therapist-client approach to accomplish the goals we set together.
Therapy within the sessions as well as homework assigned, will enhance new behaviors and a healthier way of thinking. During therapy there may be periods of challenges and uncomfortable emotions. This happens due to the sensitivity and nature of difficult memories. Although, you may feel worse before it gets better, know I will be here working with you on your journey. I will help you process these emotions and guide you towards accomplishing your goals. Therapy has the possibility to help you gain a deeper understanding of yourself and your issues. The skills gained in therapy will help new ways of coping with present and future issues. I operate from a compassion and empathetic Christian viewpoint, and would be more than happy to incorporate this into your therapy session per your request.
